Enjoying the Gallery with young children The Art Gallery of Western Australia is a great Family destination. Entry into the Gallery is free however some special exhibitions have admission charges but family tickets are always available.

Explore the art and ideas from Land/space + Family/place, a special display that celebrates the wonderful diversity of Indigenous art.

Summer Stories Activity Trail
Visit the Art Gallery of Western Australia during the January School Holidays and collect a free Art Trail. Use the trail to discover how some artists tell stories with pictures instead of words.

Suitable for primary school aged children, our Art Trail explores the whole Gallery including our best-kept secret: the Centenary Galleries.

The Summer Stories Art Trail is available from the Reception desk everyday from Saturday 1 January to Monday 31 January and there will be special events and activities for families on selected Sundays at 2pm.

The Summer Stories Activity Trail is free and no booking is required.

Sunday Summer Stories: Free events for the whole family
Visit the Art Gallery at 2pm on Sunday 23 January or Sunday 30 January and you will experience a special summer story activity.

Meet Derek Nannup from Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre and participate in a Summer Story workshop. Suitable for people of all ages but especially for children Derek’s workshop will use a variety of interactive techniques to tell stories from Indigenous culture.

You can join Derek or simply just watch and enjoy as he tells stories through dance, music and performance.

Sunday Summer Stories are free and no booking is required.
