This exhibition, from the Warburton Arts Project, explores the cultural and individual identities of Ngaanyatjarra people from Warburton, Western Australia. Paintings, photographs and innovative glass art installations will be exhibited, with artists spending time in the Gallery installing their work.

In 1990 the Warburton Arts Project was established to acknowledge the distinctive cultural expression of Central Desert Indigenous people. Western definitions of 'art' and 'culture' are European inventions and as such, are often introduced and imposed upon Indigenous people. The Warburton Project recognises that Ngaanyatjarra culture is expressed in a diversity of media, across time, as a response by Indigenous people changing the nature of the space they live in to better suit their intentions.

A 60-page catalogue accompanies the exhibition.

This display complements the Gallery's other Perth International Arts Festival exhibition, 'home'.
